I live in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and enjoy swimming, walking, writing, traveling, biking, hiking, skiing, gardening, stand up paddling, and teaching. I hold a Master’s Degree in Physical Education - Curriculum and Instruction and taught K-8 physical education in Maine for 31 years. I am also a jump rope and circus arts enthusiast. Throughout my teaching career, I served in a variety of leadership roles and have authored several articles for professional journals. In 2006 Human Kinetics published my book, Physical Education Assessment Toolkit. I am an associate with McTighe and Associates Consulting.
My work with children has been recognized at both state and national levels. In 2017 I received a Worthy Of Praise Award, in 2004 the Distinguished Leadership Award, and in 1995 was named Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by Maine’s Association For Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. For 20 years, I coached an American Heart Association Jump Rope For Heart Demonstration Team, traveling and performing for elementary schools all over the state. In 2016 I was 1 of 2 teachers in the United States to receive a National Recognition Award from SHAPE America for my work promoting heart health with school-age children. The underlying goal of all of my work has been to help children develop the skills, knowledge, and desire to become healthy, active life-long learners recognizing and enjoying the benefits of their efforts.
I started Learning On The Move in the summer of 2010 with the intent of sharing my passion for creative brain-based teaching and learning practices. Using the power of movement to energize learners, and enhance learning. Currently, I offer From Fire to Inspire learning experiences for children, adults, and teachers through camps, classes, guest teaching, programs for active older adults, adult education, and professional development workshops, consulting, and mentoring.
Yours for healthy and active life-long learning,
Liz
