Nana's Knit Balls

I was so lucky to have my grandmother be part of my life well into my 40's. She was a wonderful, hardworking women with much to share. One day when I was visiting she was rolling a knit ball with a bell in it for her cat to chase down. I don't think she had made that one but after I made the request for 40 or 50 more without bells she quickly figured out the pattern and was knitting up a storm. At the time the L'Eggs company would send you a case of reject hose for the shipping cost so I ordered a case and we used it to fill the balls. Nana passed away a few years ago and when my mom was cleaning out the house she came across her handwritten pattern and a couple of unstuffed balls. I use these things all the time. I have all that she knit and they are basically indestructible. I have since enlisted some community knitters to make some more in different sizes. It's a great way to connect with community. I know my grandmother loved contributing to my limited supply of equipment as I started my teaching career. Everyone needs to be needed. Below you will find her handwritten pattern. Have fun!
